‘Hope and Glory’ depicts ‘exhibition jousting’ with two knights and their steeds each depicting their own splendid coats of arms.

In the C11th royalty and nobility saw their best knights jousting for chivalry and honour, often being seriously injured. By the C13th jousting had become a tournament instead, at which they would exhibit their skills as part of a spectacular social event of great pageantry.

Knights proved their lineage to take part – proudly displaying family’s coats of arms on their shields, armour and horses coats. Tournaments lasted several days – a celebration – with fine lavish tents, entertainment stalls, musicians, acrobats, pageants and banquets.

  • Hand carved and  hand printed in Prussian Blue with Cyan, then hand coloured with Watercolour. The original then photographed and printed.
  • Both are titled and signed at the bottom
